Guest Singer peers behind the curtain of our exaggerated social media personas in melodic, David Lynch-esque debut song ‘New Experience’. After a sizeable introduction of the band’s various classic components - synths, guitar, bass and drums - we’re proposed with an idea: “Do you live by the words on the backdrop, of a well shot holiday hotspot? / Motivated or not, all we ever want is a new experience.” Frontman Jake Cope further describes this as a “craving,” a “longing,” to somehow compensate for our less-than-Instagrammable everyday life. Joining Cope on this zeitgeist of a track are band members Paul Burdett and France Lahma, all who hail from Doncaster and recently signed to Manchester’s tastemaking label Heist or Hit. ‘New Experience’ already has the sound of a band years in the making, and so we’re interested to hear what the rest of Guest Singer’s EP holds upon its release late this year. - Hannah Thacker
